About this scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarship, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) on behalf of China's Ministry of Education, funds international students for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral study at hundreds of Chinese universities. It is delivered through several programmes — including the Bilateral Program (government-to-government agreements), the Chinese University Program (for graduate students at designated universities), and the Great Wall, EU, PIF and WMO programmes. Full-scholarship awards typically cover a tuition waiver, on-campus accommodation (or an accommodation subsidy), a monthly living stipend paid by the host university (with full or half stipend depending on registration date), and comprehensive medical insurance. Eligibility requires applicants to be non-Chinese citizens in good health and within the age limits for each level (under 25 for undergraduate, under 35 for master's, under 40 for doctoral). Language proof is needed: a valid HSK certificate for Chinese-taught programmes (HSK III for undergraduate/non-degree, HSK IV for postgraduate) or IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programmes. To apply, candidates usually apply directly to their target university and complete the online CGS application in the CSC Information Management System, then submit documents to the relevant receiving agency (embassy, university, or partner organisation) before the deadline.
