CHASA Educational Scholarship

Offered by Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association

About this scholarship

The CHASA Educational Scholarship supports students age 25 or younger who live with childhood-onset hemiplegia or hemiparesis caused by stroke or another condition. Applicants must currently have the diagnosis and attend a postsecondary school that leads to a degree or certification, or a postsecondary vocational education program. They must be enrolled for the fall of the year in which they apply. The Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association determines the number and value of awards each year based on available funds, and recipients are normally notified by October 31. Eligible students may reapply annually for up to four consecutive years, including previous recipients, subject to the program’s total participation limit. The official packet contains the application, an essay page asking about future goals and the experiences that prepared the student to reach them, a physician certification, and an optional permission form for releasing the recipient’s name, state, and essay material. The physician must confirm the childhood onset and current hemiplegia or hemiparesis, then mail the statement directly in an office-stationery envelope or an envelope bearing the physician’s return address. A physician statement sent from the applicant’s home address is not accepted. The remaining application materials and all required elements must be postmarked by August 31, 2026 and mailed to CHASA at the address in the official packet.
