Central Michigan University International Opportunity Award

About this scholarship

The Central Michigan University International Opportunity Award is a lower-tier automatic merit award for international undergraduates who meet CMU's stated academic and English-proficiency thresholds. CMU lists the award at $1,000 per year for four years for freshmen and $1,000 per year for three years for transfer students. It is partial funding because it is a modest tuition-support scholarship and does not cover the full cost of tuition and fees, housing, food, books, health insurance, transportation, or personal expenses. Students do not submit a separate application or essay; CMU automatically considers international degree-seeking applicants when they apply for admission and awards the highest international merit scholarship for which they qualify. The Opportunity Award is for students with an overall GPA of 2.8 to 2.9 on the U.S. 4.0 scale, plus proof of English proficiency. Transfer students must also have at least 24 completed college credit hours. Students sponsored by their home country are not eligible for CMU's international undergraduate merit awards.

Eligibility

• Apply as a degree-seeking international undergraduate student to Central Michigan University
• Have an overall GPA of 2.8 to 2.9 on a U.S. 4.0 scale
• Provide proof of English proficiency
• Transfer applicants must have completed at least 24 college credit hours
• No separate scholarship application or essay is required
• Students sponsored by their home country are not eligible
• Freshmen may receive the award for four years and transfers for three years if requirements are met
