California Competitive Cal Grant – Community College September Cycle
Offered by California Student Aid Commission
About this scholarship
California’s Competitive Cal Grant program provides need-based state financial aid to students who meet Cal Grant requirements but do not receive an entitlement award. The March 2 statewide competition has passed, but the California Student Aid Commission currently instructs California community college students to apply for 2026–27 aid by September 2, 2026. This current pathway requires filing either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the California Dream Act Application, as appropriate, and ensuring that a verified GPA reaches the Commission by the deadline. The linked official Cal Grant application hub gives students direct access to both applications, the GPA form, school search, deadlines, and WebGrants account tools. Applicants must be California residents or qualify under AB 540, attend an eligible California institution, demonstrate financial need, remain below annual income and asset ceilings, and pursue an undergraduate degree, eligible certificate, or first professional credential. Competitive Cal Grant A generally requires at least a 3.0 high school GPA or 2.4 college GPA, while Competitive Cal Grant B generally requires at least a 2.0 GPA. Awards are competitive and limited, not guaranteed. Values vary by A or B award type, institution, enrollment, and the final state budget, so this record does not copy an unsupported fixed amount. Students should confirm FAFSA or CADAA submission and GPA receipt through official systems before September 2.
