Burlingame/Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarship
Offered by Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association
About this scholarship
The Burlingame/Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarship awards $1,000 to a student preparing to use plants and horticultural activities to improve people’s physical, emotional, or social well-being. The Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association created the award in 1984 to honor Alice Wessels Burlingame, who helped establish horticultural therapy as a profession. Applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or post-baccalaureate degree program in horticultural therapy, or in a bachelor’s horticulture program that includes a horticultural-therapy emphasis or certificate. They must also demonstrate a specific interest in the field. The direct official application asks for the applicant’s institution, completed semesters, area of study, and a description of the educational program. Supporting materials include an official or unofficial academic transcript and a 200- to 300-word essay explaining how the applicant became interested in horticulture and horticultural therapy, any related work experience, post-graduation plans, and how the degree and therapeutic-horticulture principles will be used to enhance individual well-being. Members of WNF&GA and their immediate family members are not eligible. The sponsor publishes a recurring May 15 deadline and provides an email address in the packet for submission. Because the application is a reusable official form rather than a directory landing page, students can review every requirement before applying.
