About this scholarship
Boise State University’s Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship reduces tuition for selected nonresident undergraduates from participating Western states and U.S.-affiliated Pacific jurisdictions. WUE recipients pay no more than 150% of Boise State’s resident tuition rate. The university currently estimates the annual nonresident-tuition savings at approximately $16,339, or about $65,356 over four years if the value remains constant. This award offsets nonresident fees rather than paying cash, and students remain responsible for resident tuition and fees, living costs, books, and any uncovered charges. New first-year applicants need a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of at least 3.50; applicants seeking the separate WUE Nursing designation need at least a 3.90 and must declare pre-nursing or nursing. Eligibility also requires residence in a listed WUE state or territory and an eligible major. Radiological science, pre-radiological science, alternative-fee programs, and fully online programs are excluded from standard consideration, with additional program restrictions possible. No separate WUE application is required. Students submit Boise State’s direct undergraduate admission application and all transcripts by the scholarship priority deadline. For Fall 2027, every required admission item must arrive by December 15, 2026. Renewal requires full-time enrollment of at least 12 credits each fall and spring, 24 completed credits across the academic year, a cumulative 3.0 GPA, and continued enrollment in an eligible program.
Eligibility
- Apply as a degree-seeking first-year undergraduate to Boise State University
- Be a legal resident of an eligible WUE state or participating U.S.-affiliated Pacific jurisdiction
- Choose a major eligible for Boise State’s WUE scholarship
- Have at least a 3.50 cumulative unweighted high school GPA, or 3.90 for WUE Nursing consideration
- Submit the admission application and all required transcripts by December 15, 2026 for Fall 2027
- Enroll in at least 12 credits in each fall and spring semester
- Complete at least 24 credits across fall and spring for renewal
- Maintain a cumulative 3.0 Boise State GPA and remain in an eligible major for renewal
