Bob Freeman Award
Offered by Broadcast Education Association and the Bob Freeman Scholarship Endowment
About this scholarship
The Bob Freeman Award provides one $1,000 scholarship through the Bob Freeman Scholarship Endowment and the Broadcast Education Association. The endowment honors Freeman’s work in education and training in radio and media sales, while the current award is listed within BEA’s group for study in any electronic-media area. Eligible students will be juniors, seniors, or graduate students during the 2027-2028 academic year and will attend a college or university with a BEA institutional-member department. Students moving from a two-year institution to a BEA-member four-year campus may apply for undergraduate awards. Individual membership is not required, but every applicant creates a BEA profile before opening the current scholarship portal. One common application places the student into consideration for all suitable BEA awards. The form requires transcripts from every college attended, two recommendation letters on letterhead, a goals statement, and details about academics, media work, and other experience. One recommendation must be written by a college or university electronic-media professor; the other may be from a professor or industry professional. Recipients undertake full-time degree study for the full academic year. Funds are limited to qualifying campus-account expenses such as tuition, student fees, bookstore course purchases, and housing-related charges. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. local time on October 16, 2026.
