Betty Hansen Continuing Education and Cultural Heritage Grant

Offered by Danish Sisterhood of America

About this scholarship

The Betty Hansen Continuing Education and Cultural Heritage Grant helps Danish Sisterhood of America members and eligible members’ children pay costs connected with part-time postsecondary learning. The annual program normally offers up to ten grants: five in the August round for courses taken between February and August, and five in the January round for courses taken between September and January. Grants support a recently completed or nearly completed course, workshop, seminar, approved technical or community-school offering, college or university course, or seminar or language class related to Danish culture and heritage. Applicants must be enrolled less than full time. Eligible applicants include a Sisterhood member in good standing who was initiated at least one year before the deadline, the son or daughter of such a member, or the child of a member who was in good standing at death. Only one award may be made per household each year, and first-time applicants receive priority. The packet requires the sponsoring lodge’s approval unless the Lodge 300 provision applies, applicant and course information, prior grant history, lodge activities, and a statement of no more than 250 words describing how the course supports the applicant’s educational goals and any relevant circumstances. The applicant must also document enrollment, course cost, and less-than-full-time status. Completed August-round applications must be postmarked by August 31, 2026.
