BAEF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Offered by Belgian American Educational Foundation

About this scholarship

The BAEF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship supports early-career Belgian researchers undertaking a twelve-month project at a U.S. university or research institution in 2027–2028. The fellowship is an outright, nonrenewable $55,000 grant, and the Foundation also provides health-insurance coverage through its group policy. Applicants with a PhD must be within two years of receiving the degree as of July 1, 2027. Applicants coming from an MD or DVM pathway must have no more than two years of postdoctoral research experience by that date; years devoted to clinical specialty training are excluded from that calculation. Candidates identify the U.S. laboratory or research center that best fits their work, obtain a formal host invitation, and propose a project that clearly benefits from the American placement. BAEF evaluates the scholarly record, research quality, host fit, expected professional benefit, references, and English ability. Fellows must remain in the United States for the full twelve-month appointment, starting between July 1, 2027 and January 3, 2028. The process begins with BAEF’s online eligibility form and proceeds to a full application containing an autobiographical essay, concise research statement, U.S. rationale, transcripts, host documentation, and recommendations. The application deadline is October 31, 2026.
