BAEF Complementary Master’s Degree Fellowship

Offered by Belgian American Educational Foundation

About this scholarship

BAEF’s Complementary Master’s Degree Fellowship supports Belgian graduates pursuing an additional one-year master’s degree in the United States during 2027–2028. The award is an outright, nonrenewable grant worth up to $72,000. It combines a $22,000 stipend for living and travel expenses with as much as $50,000 for tuition and health insurance, allowing the fellow to spend a full nine-month academic year at a leading U.S. university. The program is intended for candidates who already hold a master’s degree by activation of the fellowship and are adding focused graduate training; LL.M. study is covered by a separate BAEF competition. Candidates should have earned the corresponding bachelor’s degree after January 1, 2023 and must present outstanding bachelor’s and master’s transcripts, a clear academic purpose, and competitive standardized-test results. They apply independently to U.S. graduate programs while also completing BAEF’s eligibility check and online fellowship application. The fellowship file includes an autobiographical essay, study plan, proposed universities, transcripts, and references. The main application deadline is October 31, 2026. Three recommendations and any outstanding TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, or GMAT results must reach BAEF by November 15, after which shortlisted candidates attend a brief selection interview in Brussels.
