AWWA Dr. Philip C. Singer Scholarship
Offered by American Water Works Association Water Equation
About this scholarship
The AWWA Dr. Philip C. Singer Scholarship provides $6,000 to a graduate student conducting research in drinking-water quality, environmental science, or public health. The proposed work should produce actionable and timely findings that address real challenges faced by the water industry rather than remain purely theoretical. Applicants use the American Water Works Association’s shared Water Equation AwardSpring portal for 2027–2028 funding. AWWA membership is not required, but the applicant must be a permanent resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. The selection process is merit-based and considers academic achievement, the clarity and practical importance of the proposed research, the applicant’s potential to contribute to water-sector knowledge, and recommendations from qualified academic or professional contacts. A research proposal may be no longer than five pages. Recommenders must submit their letters before the application closes, because incomplete applications do not move forward to the scholarship committee. Funds are paid directly to the recipient’s school and may cover approved expenses such as tuition, books, laboratory fees, laboratory equipment, and conference registration. The verified deadline for this current cycle is November 6, 2026.
