About this scholarship

ARES, the federation of French-speaking universities and colleges in Belgium, runs an International Training scholarship programme as part of Belgium's development cooperation, enabling young professionals from partner countries to pursue a specialised master's degree (or advanced bachelor's/continuing-education course) at a French-speaking Belgian institution. The scholarship is comprehensive, covering tuition, travel, insurance, and living costs, and specialised master's programmes run for one academic year starting in September. Eligibility is targeted at capacity building: applicants must be permanent residents working in one of the 31 ARES partner countries, and for specialised master's programmes they generally need at least two years of professional experience after completing a previous master's degree. Because the courses are delivered in French, applicants must complete the application in French and demonstrate good written and spoken command of the language. Applications are made course by course during the annual call (roughly October to May), and selection is carried out by a jury for each course against a set of eight criteria. The programme is well suited to mid-career professionals in development-related fields who will return to contribute to their home country.

Eligibility

  • Be a permanent resident working in one of the 31 ARES partner countries
  • For specialised master's: have at least 2 years' professional experience after a master's
  • Have good written and spoken French (courses are in French)
  • Complete the application in French for your chosen course
  • Apply within the annual call (selection by a course jury on eight criteria)
