About this scholarship

APIA Scholars (Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholars) is the largest non-profit provider of college scholarships specifically for Asian American and Pacific Islander students in the United States, with a particular focus on those who live at or below the poverty line, are in the first generation of their family to attend college, or represent AAPI communities that are often overlooked. The flagship APIA Scholarship offers awards ranging from one-time $2,500 grants up to multi-year awards of up to $20,000 (the related AANAPISI Scholarship ranges from $2,500 to $5,000). To be eligible you must be able to describe your ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in relation to the countries, territories, or lands of Asia or the Pacific Islands; self-identify as Asian and/or Pacific Islander American (including mixed backgrounds); be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident; and apply for federal financial aid through the FAFSA. The application is completed and submitted online, and the initial application does not require supporting documents — applicants simply answer the questions in the form. The cycle typically opens in autumn and closes early in the new year.
