AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship

About this scholarship

The AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship is a flagship medical-student scholarship program for future physicians entering the final year of training. The official 2026 program update states that the Foundation awards $10,000 tuition assistance scholarships to exceptional medical students, with more than 15 scholarship categories. Categories include general awards, awards for students underrepresented in medicine, and awards connected to specialty interests, leadership, service, women's or children's health, health equity, humanitarian public service, and state-specific criteria. The scholarship is partial funding because it is a fixed tuition-assistance award and does not cover full medical-school tuition, fees, housing, board-exam costs, travel, insurance, or personal expenses. General scholarship eligibility requires applicants to be entering their final year of medical school and to be U.S. permanent residents, U.S. citizens, or DACA recipients. Some named categories add additional conditions, such as state residency, medical-school location, practice intentions, advocacy interests, or commitment to underserved populations. Eligibility

• Be entering the final year of medical school
• Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or DACA recipient
• Apply through the AMA Foundation scholarship application system

• Demonstrate academic excellence, resilience, service, leadership, or specialty commitment
