Alice W. Rooke Scholarship

About this scholarship

The Alice W. Rooke Scholarship is a national Daughters of the American Revolution award for a student who has been accepted into or is already pursuing an approved course of study leading to the M.D. degree. DAR currently publishes one $5,000 award. It is not automatically renewable, although a recipient may return to the competitive applicant pool for as many as four years. The scholarship does not support pre-medical study, veterinary medicine, or physician-assistant programs. Like applicants to other national DAR Scholarship Committee awards, candidates must be U.S. citizens and must attend or plan to attend an accredited institution in the United States. Applications are submitted through the DAR AcademicWorks portal during the recurring November 1 through January 31 window; the next deadline is January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. The common application asks for proof of citizenship, relevant undergraduate and medical-school transcripts, a career-objectives statement, academic and extracurricular information, and two to four recent recommendations. Medical applicants should also include MCAT scores when those scores do not appear on the transcript. Applicants who have not finalized which medical school they will attend may follow DAR’s published acceptance-document procedure, but the award is issued only after enrollment is confirmed.

Eligibility

• Be a United States citizen
• Attend or plan to attend an accredited institution in the United States
• Be accepted into or currently pursuing an approved course of study to become a medical doctor
• Not be applying for pre-medical, veterinary, or physician-assistant study
• Provide college and medical-school transcripts and MCAT scores if the scores are not on the transcript
• Submit proof of citizenship, a career statement, activities and achievements, and two to four recommendations
• Submit the complete online application by January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time
