Offered by San Diego Council, Navy League of the United States
About this scholarship
The Alexander Kreiglowa Navy and Marine Corps Dependents Education Foundation Scholarship supports California high school seniors whose parent served in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps. The San Diego Council of the Navy League administers this need-based renewable award. It can provide up to $15,000 per academic year for as many as four years, a maximum potential value of $60,000, for tuition, books, and academically related fees. Room, board, and housing are excluded. Applicants must be dependent children of active-duty, retired, or deceased-while-on-active-duty Navy or Marine Corps personnel, live in California, and graduate in the application year. They need either an unweighted 3.6 cumulative GPA or placement in the top 10% of their class if the school ranks students, plus acceptance for the immediately following fall at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university. The official packet requires an application, worksheet, one- to two-page goals essay, at least two recommendations, transcript, available test and AP results, financial documents, proof of the parent's service status, and college acceptance letter. Applications are accepted January 1 through April 30 by email or mail using the instructions in the packet. Recipients must carry at least 12 units and maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep the award.
