Alaska Education Grant

Offered by Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education

About this scholarship

The Alaska Education Grant is a need-based state aid program for Alaska residents attending participating postsecondary schools or training providers in Alaska. Awards range from $500 to $4,000 for an academic year, but eligibility does not guarantee funding: the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education ranks qualified students using factors that include prior-year receipt, FAFSA submission timing, enrollment level, and financial need, and makes awards only while funds remain. There is no separate grant application. Students use the direct federal FAFSA application, list at least one qualifying Alaska institution, and then monitor their status through the Alaska Student Aid Portal. The school must certify eligible enrollment at the beginning of the academic year. Applicants may pursue an undergraduate degree or vocational certificate and must enroll at least half time. They must have lived in Alaska for at least 365 days before filing the FAFSA, hold U.S. citizenship or permanent-resident status, have a high-school diploma or GED, show financial need through the FAFSA Student Aid Index, and meet their institution’s satisfactory-academic-progress rules. Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree are not eligible. Because the sponsor publishes no separate closing date and prioritizes earlier FAFSA submissions, applicants should file as soon as the applicable FAFSA becomes available.
