About this scholarship
The AIFS Abroad Cultural Engagement Scholarship supports students who want to turn a study or internship abroad into sustained academic and community engagement. For fall and spring semester or winter-quarter programs, AIFS Abroad offers up to two $5,000 awards and up to two $3,000 awards per term. Summer applicants may compete for up to two $1,500 awards. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic engagement, meaningful community service, or both, and complete the separate scholarship and AIFS program applications by the same deadline. The award applies to eligible AIFS Abroad study and intern abroad programs; spring-break and virtual programs are excluded. Current applicants for spring semester or winter quarter must submit through their AIFS student portal by October 1, 2026. The recurring deadlines listed by AIFS are March 1 for summer and April 15 for fall semester. Because this is a competitive scholarship with a limited number of awards, candidates should use the application to connect their academic work or service record to concrete plans for participating thoughtfully in the host community. The official portal requires a student account and also handles the underlying AIFS program application.
Eligibility
- Apply to an eligible AIFS Abroad study or intern abroad program
- Demonstrate high academic engagement, meaningful community service, or both
- Complete the AIFS Abroad program application by the scholarship deadline
- Complete the competitive scholarship application in the AIFS student portal
- Not use the award for a spring-break or virtual program
- Submit by October 1, 2026 for a spring semester or winter quarter program
