AAUW Laura Fuoss Memorial Scholarship
Offered by AAUW Morton Branch and Morton Community Foundation
About this scholarship
The AAUW Laura Fuoss Memorial Scholarship provides $1,000 to a woman continuing her education beyond a bachelor's degree. The endowed award is administered by the AAUW Morton Branch with the Morton Community Foundation and honors a longtime Morton, Illinois educator and AAUW leader. Applicants must already hold a bachelor's degree and be entering or currently enrolled in good academic standing in a graduate degree or advanced certification program at an accredited university. They must also have a direct Morton-area connection: current residence in the Morton Community Unit School District, employment in Morton, graduation from Morton High School, or membership in the AAUW Morton Branch. The award is not restricted to a particular profession; previous recipients have pursued law, medicine, education, nursing, psychology, business, veterinary medicine, music, and other graduate fields. The sponsor describes May 1 as the annual deadline and links its scholarship/application section from the official fund page. Because local affiliation is central to eligibility, applicants should document the qualifying Morton connection clearly and verify the current year's required materials on the AAUW page before submission. Selection has historically considered academic achievement, leadership, recommendations, professional goals, and alignment with AAUW priorities such as advocacy for underserved and underrepresented communities.
