The 2027 Hope College Distinguished Artist Award in Visual Arts recognizes incoming first-year and transfer students with strong academic records and outstanding artistic ability. The award provides $3,000 each year and may renew for four years, making the listed $12,000 a possible total rather than a one-time scholarship. Applicants submit both the Common Application for admission to Hope College and the separate live DAA application by February 15, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. The scholarship portfolio must contain 15 individual JPEG images of artwork made during the applicant’s final two years of high school. Each image must be between 100 KB and 1 MB, use the artwork title in its filename, and include the medium, year, dimensions, and a brief statement about the piece. Applicants also submit an artist statement. Hope encourages students to choose their strongest and most recent work and to show a range of media that helps faculty evaluate technical achievement, creative potential, and artistic point of view. Admission and the Art and Art History Department expect to announce decisions in mid-March. For annual renewal, a recipient must maintain at least a 2.6 Hope GPA and declare a major or minor in Studio Art, Art History, or Visual Arts Education, including the Community Arts Pedagogy minor.
Eligibility
- Apply as an incoming first-year or transfer student to Hope College for fall 2027
- Submit the Common Application for admission to Hope College
- Complete the Visual Arts Distinguished Artist Award application
- Upload 15 individual JPEG images of artwork created during the final two years of high school
- Keep each portfolio image between 100 KB and 1 MB and provide the required title, medium, year, size, and description
- Submit an artist statement with the portfolio
- Declare an eligible Art and Art History Department major or minor and maintain at least a 2.6 Hope College GPA for renewal
