About this scholarship
The 2027 Hope College Distinguished Artist Award in Theatre provides $3,000 per year, renewable for four years, to talented high school seniors and transfer students entering Hope in fall 2027. Applicants may compete as performers or through design, directing, stage management, or technical theatre. Every candidate submits the official DAA application and theatrical resume and also completes Hope College’s admission application. Most auditions and interviews take place on campus March 5, 2027; the application and resume are due March 1 at 11:59 p.m. Hope recommends attending DAA Day, but a student who cannot attend may arrange an alternate date or submit a recorded audition and interview by the deadline. All candidates must visit campus before or on the required March date. Performing applicants normally prepare two contrasting monologues of no more than two minutes each, optionally adding a song of no more than one minute, with the entire audition limited to five minutes. Designers and technicians present work such as designs, production photos, scenery, costumes, props, lighting, or related visual art; directors and stage managers address role-specific questions. Recipients must major or minor in theatre and maintain at least a 2.6 Hope GPA. This audition is for scholarship selection only and is not required for admission to the theatre program.
Eligibility
- Be a high school senior or transfer student intending to enroll at Hope College in fall 2027
- Submit a completed application for admission to Hope College
- Complete the Theatre Distinguished Artist Award application and submit a theatrical resume
- Complete a performance audition, design or technical portfolio presentation, directing presentation, or stage-management presentation
- Complete the required theatre faculty interview
- Visit the Hope College campus by the program’s required March 2027 date
- Submit any recorded audition and interview or conclude an alternate audition by March 1, 2027
- Major or minor in theatre and maintain at least a 2.6 Hope College GPA for renewal
