2027 Herb Society of America Research Grant

Offered by The Herb Society of America

About this scholarship

The 2027 Herb Society of America Research Grant provides up to $10,000 for a small, self-contained project that advances knowledge and use of herbs. Eligible proposals may investigate horticultural, scientific, medicinal, or historical dimensions of herbs, but the project must define an herb as useful for flavoring, medicine, economic, industrial, or cosmetic purposes and show potential to add significant knowledge to the field. The Society accepts applications only from January 1 through January 31, 2027; this corrects the later date shown in commercial directories. Applicants create a single PDF proposal following the official instructions and email it to research.grants@herbsociety.org. The package includes a project title, specific aims, background and significance, preliminary studies, detailed research design and methods, an itemized budget with justification, a one-year timeline, a dissemination plan, citations, and a current curriculum vitae of no more than two pages for each principal investigator. Permitted costs include investigator compensation, professional or technical help, and research supplies. Tuition, textbooks, conference costs, durable equipment, private garden development, research-site travel, and indirect costs are not allowed. Awardees must include midterm and final reports in the timeline, prepare a report for an HSA publication, and write an 800-word blog post sharing results.
