2026 James Alan Cox College Photojournalism Scholarship
Offered by The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists
About this scholarship
The 2026 James Alan Cox College Photojournalism Scholarship awards $2,500 to each of five U.S. college or technical-school students. Four awards recognize video work and one recognizes still photography. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, attend U.S. schools, have completed at least one year of postsecondary study, and have taken photography or photojournalism courses. They also need at least one semester remaining when awards are made. Entries must be photojournalism that objectively tells a story rather than art, glamour, or nature photography. Still applicants submit exactly five recent JPEG or PNG images; video applicants submit two videos of no more than three minutes and 20 MB each. The online application also requires a brief essay, two references, a school transcript, financial information, and the portfolio. Applications are internet-only and there is no fee. Award funds must be used at the beginning of the next semester or they are forfeited. The sponsor’s detailed page describes the cutoff as midnight on the evening of November 15 and elsewhere as midnight on November 16; applicants should submit no later than November 15, 2026.
