About this scholarship
The 2026 Jacob Smaus SuperHero Scholarship recognizes a college, graduate, or vocational student whose volunteer service improves the lives of others. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and either Nebraska residents attending an accredited U.S. institution or students attending an institution located in Nebraska. Enrollment must be full time, and high-school students are not eligible. Four-year college students need at least 24 completed credits; two-year college and vocational or technical students need at least 12; certification students must have completed half their curriculum or classroom hours. Graduate applicants provide proof of acceptance or enrollment. Every applicant needs a GPA of at least 2.5 and must remain full time in the first academic term after receiving the award. The direct 2026 form collects academic, extracurricular, work, military, award, and community-service history plus a reference who can confirm the applicant’s involvement. Candidates upload an unofficial transcript and write a short essay explaining their contributions, why service matters, and how involvement affects others and their own goals. The sponsor’s current application states an October 1, 2026 deadline.
Eligibility
- Be a U.S. citizen and a Nebraska resident, or attend an educational institution located in Nebraska
- Be enrolled full time in eligible college, graduate, vocational, technical, or certification study
- Meet the sponsor’s completed-credit or program-progress requirement
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- Be actively involved in volunteer community service
- Upload an unofficial transcript and provide a community-service reference
- Complete the service essay and online application by October 1, 2026
