Worcester District Medical Society Scholarship
Offered by Worcester District Medical Society
About this scholarship
The Worcester District Medical Society Scholarship reduces medical-school debt for diverse students who have strong ties to Central Massachusetts, financial need, and a record of community service. Each year the Society makes multiple scholarship and book awards ranging from $1,000 to $4,000. Applicants must have been legal residents of one of the Central Massachusetts cities or towns listed on the official page when they applied to medical school. They must now be full-time second-, third-, or fourth-year students in good academic standing at an accredited allopathic MD or osteopathic DO school. Students on leave, in a gap year, completing a separate MPH or PhD program, or serving a fellowship year when funds are disbursed are not eligible. The online application asks about education, work and volunteer experience, honors, special circumstances, and current educational debt. A complete file also includes two recommendations sent directly by their authors, a personal essay about the applicant’s medical career and reasons for deserving the award, a current CV, and a medical-school transcript sent by student affairs. The financial-aid office must verify enrollment, academic standing, qualifying Central Massachusetts residency, documented racial or ethnic background, and debt burden. Complete applications are followed by an interview in early fall. WDMS accepts applications from June 1 through September 1, and limits recipients to one award per academic year and three total before graduation.
