William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship
Offered by Indiana Commission for Higher Education
About this scholarship
Indiana’s William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship provides up to $4,000 to first-time undergraduate students preparing to teach in an underserved Indiana county. For applicants entering college after June 30, 2025, the state defines the target counties as Allen, Lake, Marion, St. Joseph, and Vanderburgh. The student must currently live in one of those counties or have lived there immediately before beginning college, remain an Indiana resident, and attend an eligible Indiana institution full time. The academic program must lead toward teaching in an underserved county, and the applicant must meet the grade-point standard required for admission to the institution’s school of education. A FAFSA is also required. Recipients sign an agreement to apply for teaching positions in an underserved Indiana county after certification and, if hired, teach there for at least three years. Continued eligibility requires a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and a new application through ScholarTrack each year. The award cannot exceed either $4,000 or the remaining cost of attendance after other aid. The official 2026 deadline is August 31, correcting older directory dates that may still circulate online.
