UNM Western Undergraduate Exchange Plus Scholarship
Offered by The University of New Mexico
About this scholarship
The University of New Mexico Western Undergraduate Exchange Plus Scholarship is a nonresident tuition waiver for strong first-time freshmen from participating Western states and Pacific jurisdictions. WUE Plus recipients pay the New Mexico resident tuition rate instead of UNM’s standard out-of-state rate. For 2027–28, the university estimates the benefit at approximately $23,149 per academic year; it may continue for four years, making the estimated four-year value about $92,596 if tuition and eligibility remain comparable. It is tuition support rather than a cash award and does not by itself cover housing, food, books, travel, or all other attendance costs. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and legal residents of a listed WUE state or jurisdiction. Academic consideration requires either a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA or a 20 ACT / 1030 SAT score. No separate WUE Plus form is required: students begin the official UNM undergraduate admission application and are considered through the admission process. Awards are limited and competitive even when a student meets the published thresholds. The central 2027–28 scholarship table asks applicants to apply and be admitted by February 1. Renewal requires 15 new credit hours and at least a 2.5 GPA in each fall and spring semester, subject to UNM scholarship policies.
