UMBC Center for Women in Technology Scholars Program

Offered by University of Maryland, Baltimore County Center for Women in Technology

About this scholarship

The UMBC Center for Women in Technology Scholars Program is a merit-based undergraduate scholarship and cohort experience for students in computing, information technology, and engineering. Current official program materials list four-year awards of $5,000 to $15,000 per academic year for Maryland residents and $10,000 to $22,000 per academic year for nonresidents. Funding may be applied toward tuition, mandatory fees, and other educational expenses, but the individual award depends on residency and selection and is not guaranteed to cover the entire cost of attendance. Scholars also receive faculty and industry mentoring, professional networking, leadership opportunities, specialized coursework, community outreach experience, and priority consideration for the CWIT Living Learning Community. Eligible majors include computer science, information systems, technically focused business technology administration, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical, biochemical or environmental engineering, and related UMBC programs. The program welcomes women, other groups underrepresented in technology and engineering, and allies committed to its inclusive mission. Candidates must first pursue UMBC admission and then complete the separate CWIT/Cyber Scholars application in the university’s Scholarship Retriever portal; recommendations are optional, and finalists are interviewed by a faculty committee. The program page still shows an old January 15 deadline for Fall 2025, so no unannounced 2027 date is presented here. Students should enter the live portal and confirm the deadline for their cohort.
