TMEA High School Senior Scholarships
Offered by Texas Music Educators Association
About this scholarship
The Texas Music Educators Association offers several scholarships to graduating Texas high school seniors who plan to become music educators. The largest, the Bill Cormack Scholarship, pays $3,000 per year for up to five years, or $15,000 total. Three other named scholarships provide $2,500 per year for up to five years, and TMEA also awards multiple one-year $2,500 scholarships. Applicants must graduate from a Texas high school, enter a Texas college or university as full-time freshmen in fall 2027, and major in a music degree program leading to Texas teacher certification with music as the primary teaching field. The shared direct application asks for five references who can assess the student’s music abilities, work ethic, personal qualities, and potential to succeed in undergraduate music education. One evaluation must come from the applicant’s primary ensemble director. Candidates also upload an original essay describing when they chose music education, the teachers who inspired them, and the educator they hope to become. A professional resume should list musical and academic honors, affiliations, community involvement, and service. A current transcript must be uploaded or received by mail before the deadline. Applicants should create only one application. All materials are due at the TMEA office by 4:30 p.m. Central Time on October 30, 2026.
