Ohio College Opportunity Grant

Offered by Ohio Department of Higher Education

About this scholarship

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant provides need-based tuition and general-fee assistance to eligible Ohio residents pursuing undergraduate education. For 2026-27, applicants generally need a Student Aid Index of $3,750 or less and total household income no greater than $96,000. Students apply by submitting the FAFSA, and participating institutions determine residency, enrollment, program eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, and the final award. OCOG can support an associate degree, first bachelor’s degree, approved nursing diploma, or a qualifying comprehensive transition and postsecondary program for students with intellectual disabilities. The current award table varies sharply by institution and enrollment: full-time annual maximums include $4,000 at most public main campuses, $5,000 at most private nonprofit institutions, $2,000 at private for-profit institutions, and $492 at regional campuses, with special institutional rates and prorated amounts for less-than-full-time study. Most community-college students receive no standard OCOG award because the maximum Pell Grant exceeds average tuition and general fees, but qualifying foster youth, recipients of certain federal veterans’ education benefits, and some third-term students may receive an exception. Ohio residents attending approved Pennsylvania institutions may also qualify for limited awards under reciprocity. The initial FAFSA must reach the federal processor by October 1, 2026; corrections may be processed later when the original filing was timely and funds remain.
