New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant
Offered by New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority
About this scholarship
The New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant is the state’s principal need-based grant for residents enrolled in approved undergraduate programs at New Jersey public, private, two-year, and four-year institutions. Awards cover a portion of tuition and vary by the student’s New Jersey Eligibility Index, financial need, enrollment level, institution sector, actual tuition, available resources, and state appropriations. The official 2026-27 table lists approximate annual full-time awards from $3,098 at county colleges to as much as $14,404 at eligible independent nonpublic institutions for students in the highest-need category. Applicants who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens submit the FAFSA; eligible New Jersey Dreamers use the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application. Students then create an NJFAMS account, monitor the personalized To Do List, and complete verification, corrections, college selection, and other state-record tasks. Dependent students and their parents generally must satisfy the twelve-month New Jersey residency rule, while independent students generally must themselves satisfy it; the state also recognizes specific New Jersey high-school and Dreamer pathways. Students must remain in an eligible undergraduate program and meet their institution’s satisfactory academic progress policy. For 2026-27, new students and students who did not receive TAG in 2025-26 must have their application processed by September 15, 2026 and complete the state record by October 1. Renewal applicants had an earlier April 15 filing deadline.
