New Hampshire Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans

Offered by New Hampshire Department of Education

About this scholarship

New Hampshire's Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans program provides up to $2,500 per year to eligible children of service members. Applicants must be ages 16–25 and legal New Hampshire residents. A qualifying parent must have served on active duty during a statutory service period and either died while on active duty or, while a New Hampshire resident, died from a federally certified service-connected disability. Funds support undergraduate or graduate study at a public or private New Hampshire college or university and may pay room, board, books, and supplies rather than tuition. The state provides separate direct PDFs for first-time and renewing applicants. An initial applicant supplies personal and family-service information, proof of New Hampshire residency, supporting military records, and a completed W-9 as directed by the form. The Higher Education Commission divides the annual appropriation among eligible applicants, with no award above $2,500, and sends payment directly to recipients. Awards may be renewed three times after the first award, ending after four total awards or at age 26, whichever comes first. The completed initial application is due September 1, 2026.
