Mark Kilroy Foundation Scholarships
Offered by Mark Kilroy Foundation
About this scholarship
Mark Kilroy Foundation Scholarships provide $4,000 for eligible students from designated Brazoria and Galveston County high schools and graduates of the Salvation Army Houston Adult Rehabilitation Center. Awards may support an accredited Texas college, university, technical school, vocational school, or trade school. A scholarship is normally paid over four years based on academic performance and completed semester hours, although the foundation may adjust installments for a shorter certificate or associate program. There is no age limit, class rank cutoff, or automatic disqualification based on other aid. The official downloadable application collects school plans, estimated education expenses, employment, volunteer work, activities, family information, challenges or disadvantages, scholarships, financial aid, and loans. Every applicant must attach an official high-school transcript or Texas high-school-equivalency certificate and a thoughtful anti-drug essay addressing why young people begin using illegal drugs and how that first use might be prevented. Recommendations are optional but encouraged. Recipients generally must maintain a 2.5 GPA and at least 12 semester hours in fall and spring to continue payments. Complete, signed applications may be emailed or mailed, with major yearly review deadlines on March 15 and November 15; applications are accepted and awards may be made throughout the year.
