John Bayliss Award
Offered by Broadcast Education Association and the John Bayliss Foundation
About this scholarship
The John Bayliss Award is one $4,000 scholarship sponsored by the John Bayliss Foundation for study toward a career in radio or audio media. It is administered through the Broadcast Education Association’s current common application. Candidates must expect to be juniors, seniors, or graduate students during 2027-2028 at an institution with at least one BEA-member department. Students at two-year colleges can be considered for undergraduate awards when they will transfer to a BEA-member four-year college or university. Individual student membership is not required, although applicants create a BEA profile before entering the portal. One completed form automatically places the applicant under consideration for every qualifying scholarship. Required submissions include transcripts from each college attended, two letters of recommendation on letterhead, personal and academic information, electronic-media and other experience, and a written statement of goals. One recommendation must be written by a college or university electronic-media professor; the other may be supplied by another professor or an industry professional. Selection considers academic strength, potential as an electronic-media professional, integrity, and responsibility. The scholarship supports full-time degree study for the entire academic year, and funds are limited to eligible charges on the recipient’s campus account. The complete application is due by 11:59 p.m. local time on October 16, 2026.
