Fjällräven Field Grant
Offered by The Explorers Club and Fjällräven
About this scholarship
The Fjällräven Field Grant provides $5,000 for scientific field research that improves understanding of the environment, a changing climate, and the connections among wildlife, ecosystems, and human communities. The Explorers Club and Fjällräven created the program around shared commitments to conservation, education, community, and exploration. It is intended for graduate or postgraduate students and early-career scientists conducting natural-science fieldwork. The Explorers Club’s current central guidance further identifies the opportunity for explorers under age 35 whose projects concern conservation, the environment, or sustainability. Strong proposals frame a focused research question, explain why field data are necessary, connect the methods to the expected scientific contribution, and show that the schedule and budget are practical. Projects may involve climate science, ecology, wildlife, conservation biology, environmental monitoring, earth science, marine or freshwater systems, or related natural-science work. The applicant should also address permits, research ethics, community relationships, environmental responsibility, and how results will be analyzed and communicated. The online application is embedded on the official grant page and requires a complete proposal and two written recommendations under the Club’s general grant rules. This is a research grant rather than funding for recreation, tourism, or an unsupported expedition. Applications for the 2027 field season are open and due September 6, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern.
