DC Tuition Assistance Grant

Offered by District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education

About this scholarship

The DC Tuition Assistance Grant helps eligible District of Columbia residents pay undergraduate tuition at participating colleges and universities. For 2026–27, students at public institutions in the United States, Guam, or Puerto Rico may receive up to $15,000 per academic year toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition, with a $75,000 lifetime cap. Students at eligible private four-year HBCUs nationwide or private nonprofit colleges in the Washington metropolitan area may receive up to $3,750 annually, with an $18,750 lifetime cap. Payments go directly to the institution and cannot exceed eligible tuition charges. Applicants complete the DC OneApp every year, submit a processed FAFSA Submission Summary with a Student Aid Index, and upload all supporting documents together. The 2026–27 application closes August 21, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Students must have maintained DC domicile for at least 12 consecutive months before first entering college, continue that domicile during enrollment, and satisfy the applicable income ceiling. They must pursue their first undergraduate degree at least half time, meet their institution’s satisfactory academic progress policy, and have earned their qualifying secondary credential within the program’s 15-year limit. Completing the application does not guarantee funding because DCTAG depends on annual appropriations.
