Boston University J-Squared Noyce Scholarship
Offered by Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development
About this scholarship
Boston University’s Joy and Justice in Mathematics Teaching and Learning (J-Squared) Noyce Scholarship prepares secondary mathematics teachers through a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching. The 2023–2028 project will provide 31 full-tuition scholarships to people with backgrounds in mathematics or related STEM fields. The published 2026–27 full-time tuition basis is $73,024. Scholars also receive teaching materials, clinical placements with experienced teachers, help finding a teaching job, and mentoring during the MAT and after they enter the classroom. Because the award covers tuition rather than ordinary living costs, it is classified as partial funding under this site’s taxonomy. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents and hold an undergraduate degree in mathematics or a related field. They apply directly to BU Wheelock’s mathematics MAT, include an essay explaining their commitment to teaching in high-need schools, and complete the graduate admission requirements. Recipients commit to teach for two years in a qualifying high-need district after certification. Selection is aimed at candidates with solid mathematical preparation, a serious interest in equitable secondary education, and readiness for an intensive one-year licensure program.
