2026 Murray Watson, Jr. Scholarship
Offered by Brazos Higher Education
About this scholarship
The 2026 Murray Watson, Jr. Scholarship awards one Texas student $5,000 every month. Graduating high-school seniors, current college students, and graduate students may apply if they are Texas residents, at least 17 years old, and have a minimum 3.3 GPA or equivalent. Applicants must be accepted and committed to attend or already enrolled at a U.S.-accredited state or nonprofit college or university anywhere in the United States. The sponsor considers academic performance, financial need, readiness and commitment to study, and other circumstances; selected finalists may be invited to an online interview. The live application collects the student’s current school, GPA, admitted or attending college, major or graduate program, career goal, first-generation status, and family adjusted gross income from the FAFSA or tax return. Required uploads include a personal letter of no more than two double-spaced pages describing education and career goals, success qualities, past obstacles, and how they were overcome; an employment, activities, and community-service record; and a recent high-school, undergraduate, or graduate transcript. Unofficial transcripts are accepted. Brazos generally notifies winners within two to six weeks after the month in which the application is considered. Students may apply only once per academic year, defined as August through July. This listing uses the current September 30, 2026 monthly cutoff.
